The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says they received a call from Ruth Borgman around 6:20 a.m. saying she hit something in the area of southbound US-31 and Riley Street in Holland Township. She waited to call police until after she drove to work in Holland and noticed damage to her vehicle. While deputies were checking the intersection of US-31 and Riley Street, they found 15-year-old Jonathan Bracamontes lying in the median. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Driver won't be charged hit-and-run death of teen
The investigation indicates that Borgman was driving through the intersection on a green light when Bracamontes was hit and killed, according to Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney Ronald Frantz.

"I conclude she was unable to react in time to avoid impacting Bracamontes," Frantz wrote in an opinion.
Driver sentenced to probation for crash that killed West Ottawa teen
Holland District Judge Susan Jonas on Wednesday, Jan. 7, sentenced Ruth Borgman to a year of probation and 100 hours community service for a misdemeanor charge of failure to stop at a personal injury accident.
Borgman said she had a green light at Riley Street and had a large truck on her right side at the time of the accident. The crash remains under investigation, and anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office at 616.738.4042.
