Pilot seriously injured in small-plane crash near Manassas Regional Airport in Manassas, Virginia

The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that the pilot was practicing approaches at the Manassas Regional Airport when the accident occurred, and that the incident is under investigation.

Virginia State Police are investigating after a small plane crash-landed in a wooded area of Prince William County near Manassas. Police say the pilot of the small plane struck the trees and fell into a yard on the 9400 block of Upper Mill Loop. Police say officers were called to the scene of the crash just after 9 a.m. on Sunday. Police say no one on the ground was injured.

The pilot was airlifted to a hospital with what were described as serious injuries, according to WJLA. No one on the ground was hurt. WJLA reports crews were called to 9400 block of Upper Mill Loop  just after 9 a.m. after the small plane hit some trees and came to rest in the woods behind a home. WNEW reports the female pilot is a student at Dulles Aviation.
