Florida man dies after being hit by train in Royal Oak

A Florida man is dead after being hit by a train in downtown Royal Oak. The man was transported to William Beaumont Hospital by the Royal Oak Fire Department and was pronounced dead at the hospital. People with information about his incident can contact the Royal Oak Police Department at 248-246-3500. The Royal Oak Police Department, in conjunction with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and the CN Railroad Police are currently investigating the incident. Several witnesses said that the train was sounding its horn and the railroad crossing was active and working properly at the time of the incident, police said.

Investigators "determined he ran across the railroad tracks to meet some friends at another location when he was struck by the oncoming train," Royal Oak police said in a statement Monday. "There are no indications this was a suicide."

Man, 26, killed at train crossing in Royal Oak

Police said it appears the man disregarded a lowered crossing arm near Sixth and Main streets and attempted to cross the tracks on foot in the face of an oncoming Amtrak train. It happened at about 12:50 a.m.
