Police asking for the public's help in finding driver wanted in hit and run.

Police continue to search for the driver who was involved in a hit and run accident over the weekend.
Police continue to search for the driver who was involved in a hit and run accident over the weekend. Just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday, police said a woman was trying to cross Albemarle Road at the intersection of North Sharon Amity Road when a white older model Jeep Grand Cherokee hit her midway and fled the scene. Police said MEDIC took Tonia Marie Payne, 43, to Carolinas Medical Center. Payne was originally listed in serious condition. Her condition has been upgraded to fair, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Witnesses described the vehicle as a white, older model Jeep Grand Cherokee that was headed east on Albemarle Road. The Jeep Grand Cherokee should have front end damage and there was no vehicle debris left on scene according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Police said the Payne was walking outside the crosswalk. Detectives are now looking through surveillance video along Albemarle Road to see if they can identify the driver.
