After his release from the hospital, Hayes was booked in the New Hanover County Jail on charges of second-degree murder, felony death by vehicle, no operators license, reckless driving, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to records.

The Wilmington Police department and representatives from Coastal Horizons were in support. Prayers were given and songs were sang to help the family through this difficult time.

Bond lowered to $2.5 million for driver charged in wreck that killed 2-year-old

District Attorney Ben David confirmed that Jonathan Alexander Hayes' bond was lowered, with pretrail release conditions, in a New Hanover County courtroom Wednesday morning.
